Description: If you collect old schoolbooks, here’s a good one. It’s the first book of a science series called DISCOVERING YOUR WORLD. Written by the team of Beauchamp, Melrose, and Blough, it is described as “for intermediate grades.” That doesn’t mean middle school, because middle schools hadn’t been devised in 1937. There were junior high schools, but the book’s teacher notes emphasize elementary school children, so this series might have been for grade 4 or thereabouts. There are three volumes in the series. The eight units in this first book include how to classify things in the natural world, how living things grow, why living things need both air and water, and how the human body works. The emphasis is on developing a scientific way of thinking. I like the informal, friendly, basic way the text is written. There are some cute illustrations, too. Published back in 1937, the Scott Foresman book is an unstated First Edition. It shows use, being a discarded schoolbook, but the text is clean and the book in good used shape for its venerable age of 87 years! Questions? Please e-mail before bidding.
