This live aquatic plant, most commonly called the cardinal plant, can make for an excellent plant in any position of the aquarium, including the foreground, middle, and background, able to provide good cover to protect fry or simply to create a more vibrant and colorful aquarium. In order to assure the best care of your live aquarium plants, you should ensure moderate to high lighting. If you wish to replant and increase the size of the coverage offered, the tops can be trimmed and reused. Lobelia cardinalis have a hint of purple in their submerged leaves under high light. It is only their emersed leaves that can look very purple.It takes pruning well and grows at a slower rate compared to most stem plants. This makes it a very easy bush to control and shape.
